AFCAT Airforce Exam – Different posts and other important details

If you are applying for AFCAT then you can apply for following branches:

  • Flying Branch
  • Ground Duty(Technical Branch)
  • Ground Duty(Non Technical Branch)

Flying Branch

If you wish to touch the skies then this job is best for you. If you got selected then you will be appointed as a Fighter pilot, transport pilot, or helicopter pilot

  • The age limit is 20-24 years
  • candidate martial status should be single.
  • You will get a Short service commission which is of 14 years.

Ground Branch(Technical)

In this post you will manage your team to ensure that the Indian air force remains airworthy.

  • Age:- 20-26 years
  • Nationality:- Indian
  • Martial Status:- Should be unmarried if age is below 25 years
  • Permanent Commission:- For Men only
  • Short service Commission:- For Men and Women
  • Final year students can also apply if they do not have any present backlog.


Depending upon your qualification and subjects you studied you can apply for one of these branches.

Ground Branch(Non-Technical)

In this post you will manage material and human resource.

Admit card AFCAT 2020

The admit cards of AFCAt exam 2020 is released on the official site. You can click here to download the admit cards. The exam is scheduled to be on 3rd,4th, and 5th Oct 2020.

Exam pattern

  • The exam will be an online computer-based MCQ exam.
  • If you are applying for a technical post then you have to appear for EKT(Engineering Knowledge Test) also.
  • The exam will be of 300 marks and a total no. of questions will be 100. So each question will be of 3 marks and there will be a negative marking of 1 marks for each wrong answer. The duration of this test will be of 2 hrs(120 minutes).
  • The EKT exam will be 150 marks and there will be a total of 50 questions and each question will be of 3 marks.
  • The total time for the EKT exam will be 45 minutes.
  • The language of this exam will be English.
  • There will be examination fees of RS 250.
  • AFCAT exam is conducted twice in a year.

Selection Process

  • If you are applying for a nontechnical post then you should clear the AFCAT aptitude exam.
  • If you are applying for a technical post then you need to clear both exams(AFCAT aptitude exam + EKT).
  • The next stage will be the AFSB(Air Force Selection Board). This stage will be of 1-5 days. You have to undergo different tests such as Group discussion, psychological tests, etc.
  • If you manage to pass all these tests then on the basis of all these merit lists be prepared.
  • Then After clearing medical test, you will be selected for training.

Some important points regarding AFCAT exam

  • You can give this exam only in the English Language.
  • Need to be in the final year of graduation or your graduation must be completed to apply for this exam.
  • You need to be fully medically fit. If you have weak eyesight etc then do not apply for this exam.
  • You need to apply for this exam before the due date as you cannot apply after the due date.
  • The test will be very easy and you can easily score 150-160 marks.
  • This test is conducted by the Indian Air force.
  • The syllabus for AFCAT is like other govt exams. So if you are preparing for even banking then this will also help you in preparing for the air force exam.
  • If you clear the exam then you can check your marks by entering roll no and password. EKT marks will not be provided.
